Set in the picturesque woodland of Alice Holt Forest, Lodge offers superb fishing in very pleasant surroundings. This can be an easy Carp water which provides a good starting point for newcomers to the sport, and achievable targets for those with limited fishing time. The thousands of small fish of various species present also make the three acre pond a firm favourite with pleasure anglers.
We remind all FAS members of the absolute necessity to:
- Ensure that the main access gates to Alice Holt are closed and secured when the site is closed to the general public. The opening hours of Alice Holt, which change through the year, are shown on a notice board as you approach the gates when you go in.
- Ensure that you close and lock the inner barrier gate, by the Rangers hut, whenever you pass through it.
- Ensure at all times that you drive at no more than the 15mph speed limit down the forestry tracks within the site, and maintain the utmost courtesy to all others that use those tracks, especially pedestrians, cyclist and horses.
- Please ensure that you all of your litter, as on all other FAS run fisheries, is kept securely in your possession and is taken home with you at the end of your fishing session.
IF ANYONE IS FOUND NOT DOING SO THEY WILL FACE THE SEVEREST PENALTIES AT A DISCIPLINARY HEARING.
Members attention is drawn to the Joe Marshall Memorial Shield which is awarded for the best specimen fish of any species caught from the pond each year.
Lodge is a prolific water containing most species of coarse
fish. Roach and Bream predominate; Tench and Pike can be expected also. This water contains a large head of Carp to 30lb.
One of our most popular venues, Lodge Pond offers excellent estate lake fishing for Carp, Bream and silver fish.
Bottom tactics for Carp are the norm with the Chod Rig being very popular and offering excellent presentation in the deep silt, with groundbait sticks or pellet bags coming a close second.
Bream come easily to either the feeder or the waggler and can give hectic sport on the pole.
Winter fishing for the Pike can be good with plenty of Jacks and occasional doubles with the odd larger fish coming to suspended dead baits.
Fishery Report - August 2012
Lodge is fishing very well currently with a few up to mid 20's showing on the odd occasion..
Casting to showing fish and fizzing is producing the bites too and do not over look the margin where extra bites can come from if you are quiet
enough.
The work on the dam looks to be all but complete which can only benefit the fishing for everyone.
A reminder for all to fish with safe rigs and barbless hooks at all times.
Good luck and tight lines ! Russ Walker, Bailiff
28th May 2012 - Russ Walker - Lodge Pond Bailiff
According to reports on my round, Lodge is fishing well despite the very warm weather with anglers catching well in the mid day sun even! Bream and Carp have been giving the most action on the pole, quiver and specimen set ups. With the evenings drawing well past 9pm, it is good timing to get down to the water for a few hours sport!
Wendy Kemp - Head Bailiff: February 2011
The water is fishing well with a fair number of carp between 10 - 20lb showing.
October & November 2009 – Rob Orford
Some 20lb + Carp are still showing, but sport is slowing down due to seasonal conditions. A Pike of 27lb 8oz has been reported, though most fish are caught on dead baits in the margins, with the small jacks below 10lbs providing interesting sport none the less.
Bream and Roach continue to provide fair sport to maggot, paste, pellet and corn. Lodge Pond is still one of our most popular fisheries and is often very busy at weekends, especially as some waters are still closed due to the old ‘close season’, therefore weekday sessions are probably best. When it is heavily fished, it can be best to fish small beds of boilies or even single hook baits to produce the better sized fish, the average size of Carp from open water can be over 16 lb were as the average size from the end swims may only be 13-14 lbs, although the number of fish caught when you get into the smaller fish tend to be higher. Recent seasons have included one angler having caught 32 Carp around the 13 to 15 lb mark with fish up to 26 Ibs ,including a 20Ib Common Carp in only 36 hours! The largest Carp is currently around the 31 lb mark and we suspect there may be several other fish approaching that size. Pleasure anglers often have reasonable bags of Bream up to 8 lbs and Tench between 5 and 6 lbs on a variety of baits with smaller silver fish present as well.
Smaller Pike can produce some good sport with occasional doubles with 20lb specimens rarely being caught.

From the roundabout at the western end of the Farnham by-pass, follow the A325 south west (sign posted Bordon). After some 1.5 miles you pass ‘Bird World’ on the right and a garden centre immediately afterwards. Lodge Pond is situated in the Forestry Commission land opposite the garden centre.
Although there is a lay-by at this point on the A325, the Society would ask its members to continue down the road to the ‘Half-way House’ public house (about half a mile) and there take a left turn. Some 200 yards on the left side is the entrance to the Forestry Commission. Turn in here and follow the signs to a car park at the edge of the forest 100 yards from the lake.
The main gate to the forestry must be locked outside of the hours indicated on the sign board by the main gate. The foresters may leave the gate open during 9:00am to 5:30pm on a week day, outside of these times it should be locked.
Do not park in the garden centre car park or the gateway immediately opposite, unauthorised vehicles may be towed away or wheel clamped.
