The Back Lake was originally developed as a Match fishery, but has become much more of a Specimen water in recent years. The original stock of Carp have grown to good sizes and offer a good chance at that 30lb fish of a lifetime!

The Back Lake is being redeveloped as a Carp fishery to complement the Front Lake, with additional Carp stocked and Bream levels reduced, the lake now offers a good head of 20lb+ fish.

Both lakes hold Eels to 6lb+ and the Back Lake has been stocked with Pike and can be an interesting Winter venue for these species.

Tackle and Tactics

Carp fishing on this venue can be very rewarding with exceptional specimens falling to the obvious bottom tactics. Recent stockings have added some new fish that are happier to grace anglers nets, but the water is easily classified as a challenge!

Use bottom tactics to present baits on the bars or in the silty gulleys for best results, and margins can be well worth the effort if you are quiet!

There is a good stock of Bream in this pit that are rarely fished for and could give exceptional results on the tip or waggler, well worth the walk.

The Back Lake also contains a good head of Pike and produces some good sport with live baits and anchored dead baits.

Catch Reports

Fishery Report by Lee Manto: June 2012

I was fishing Stillwater Back Lake for the first time since I got my membership after talking to a few members it was clear to me that they were all fishing over big beds of bait and they said the fishing was really hard. So I set up using four grains of sweetcorn on a hair rig and a small PVA bag of pellets. Well, within a hour of starting fishing I had 3 Carp out and the biggest was only 11lb 15oz, but it just shows, its always good to try something different. Good luck and tight lines, Lee

First Report

Bags of up to 200lb of Bream averaging 3-4lb with some fish up to 7lb have been reported by pleasure anglers on feeder methods and mixed bags of silver fish on the pole and waggler can be taken from most pegs, with Roach, Rudd, Perch, skimmer Bream and occasional Tench to 6lb being caught.

Eels have also been caught to over 6lb + and can offer an interesting option to those with an interest in this species.
