A lovely, mature six-acre gravel pit with a good head of big carp. Although particularly scenic in the summertime, Stillwater has enough features above and below the water to retain interest all year round.
Despite being a prime carp water the lake also attracts the attention of both pleasure and specialist anglers seeking good fish of other species.
The Front Lake holds a good head of Carp both Mirrors and Commons up to 33lbs of which 3 are 30lb+ also a good mixed bag of Bream to 10lb+, Tench to 10lb+, Roach and Perch with Crucian Carp to 3lb+.
Both lakes hold eels to 6lb+.
Stillwaters classic lilly beds are attractive to all species, but it is the Carp that are the target on this venue.
Most anglers use standard bottom tactics for the Carp with the successful ones making full use of the typical gravel pit features of margins, bars and silt gulleys.
The Carp attain serious weights on this venue and big baits to dissuade the Bream can be very successful.
Stillwater also offers excellent fishing for Bream, Tench and Crucian Carp with those that make the effort rewarded with good bags on the feeder or waggler.
First Report
Bags of up to 200lb of Bream averaging 3-4lb with some fish up to 9lb+ have been reported by pleasure anglers on feeder methods and mixed bags of silver fish on the pole and waggler can be taken from most pegs, with Roach, Rudd, Perch, skimmer Bream and occasional Tench to 6lb being caught.
The larger Tench tend to be landed by the Carp anglers, with a 10lb 4oz Tench caught from the Front Lake being the current Society record.
Crucian Carp are present in the Front Lake and dawn and dusk into early darkness are the best times, using a sensitive float set up in the margins, with fish averaging 1.5 - 2lb and up to 3lb +.
Eels have also been caught to over 6lb + and can offer an interesting option to those with an interest in this species.

From Aldershot town centre take the road towards Ash and Guildford, turn left at the roundabout before the football stadium into Ordnance Road. Go straight across the mini roundabout and turn right at the top of the hill into Government Road.
Follow Government Road through until it leads into Lakeside Road, you will eventually reach a narrow railway bridge which only allows one car through at a time. The gate to the ponds is just before the narrow railway bridge on the right hand side.
After entering the first gate, follow the track to the second gate which provides access to the secure car park.
