At less than half an acre this water is not likely to produce any specimens. However, it is quiet, pleasant and possesses a ‘get away from it all’ quality which many of our members appreciate. In addition, there are plenty of fish to catch, so dry nets are seldom a feature of a session here.

Although this is only a small water it contains a good head of fish, the vast majority being of small size with the occasional larger fish. Species present include Tench up to 5lb. Roach up to 1.5lb. Rudd, Perch to 2lb. Crucian Carp, Mirror Carp to 14lb. These specimens are rare and the water is in no way a specimen water but very enjoyable none the less.

Tackle and Tactics

Wyke responds well to the normal small species tactics and most anglers catch well on the pole or waggler.

Most of the species in this venue do not attain any great weight, but the odd small Carp will give you a good fight and pull your elastic!!

Catch Reports

Wyke Pond water report Sat 9th June 2012

I fished Peg 12, starting at 7.00am. I fished on the edge of the tree with light float gear using maggots, I caught 4 Roach; 1 Crucian Carp of 1 lb and 24 Tench ! The best was 5lb 8oz, I had 6 between 3-4lb, 11 to 3lb and 6 of 1lb or less.

Not a bad day at all ! Christopher Lowe

October 2009

Fishing remains the same, with a re-stocking of Crucian Carp undertaken already  and Tench to come. Pond levels are now returning to normal levels.

September 2009

Fishing has been quite productive for Rudd, Roach, Perch and the odd Tench.  Carp have been showing, mainly early morning and in the evenings. Water levels  have been quite low, but works are now in progress by FAS to improve this..

First Report

With most fish between 4 - 10oz and with occasional Crucian and Tench exceeding the 1lb mark and Tench up to 3lb, some of the original Crucian Carp   are still being caught up to 2 lbs and the more recently stocked Crucians having   settled in well in 2009 and came out in large numbers though they are of   course smaller than the old fish.

Tench show to 3 lbs on sweet corn, pellets and   maggots from any swim and the Roach stocked in 2009 are now coming out at around the 4 - 10 oz mark.

A great water to introduce a young angler to the sport as fish are normally obliging and free feeding: the pole or a running line with a light waggler work well on this pretty and secluded   water.
