Introduction to The Junior Section

I’ve been fishing now for over 35 years, starting off with a cheap rod from Woolworth's, fishing the Hoe Stream in Woking for Minnows and Gudgeon and anything else that would take a bait. Spending as much time as I could on the bank, badgering my dad and older brothers to take me in all weathers. After a few years serving my apprenticeship, it began to become an obsession and still is, only now I badger my wife for more time on the bank.

But for the last 20 something years, I have taken a more active role within the clubs that I have been a member of. I have become a bailiff on most of them and around 10-years ago started to help out with the Second Chance Charity, which helps kids with learning and behavioural difficulties, to go fishing for some time out. The Society began to actively support this organisation with the 24 hour Jack Frost Memorial Pairs Match.

Following a phone call from the Society at the end of 2008, I was asked to take over the Junior Organiser job for my second spell, having done it previously for 4 or 5 years. It is something that gives me great pleasure and I will continue in the role with the help of the Society and the people who offer themselves up for the day or the 24-hour Carp Academy sessions.

JUNIOR MEMBER TEACH-IN DATES

Farnham Angling Society's FREE Junior Teach-Ins are fun days organised by the club's qualified coaches for youngsters of all ages and abilities to improve their course fishing techniques. FAS will supply all the bait that you'll need for the sessions and the coaches can provide tackle if required, but you can of course use your own. Contact us if you need tackle for the day.

Please book one week in advance with DAVE BENTON FAS junior organiser and NFA Qualified Coach. Tel: 07790 799524. The teach-ins are limited to eight juniors at any one time.

The FAS 24 hour Carp Academies and Barbel Teach-In are by application only.

Junior Teach-ins are supported by Hampshire Tackle.

  • FAS 24 hour Carp Academy (for 14-17 year olds - 6 places only)
    • Saturday 14th May - Sunday 15th May 20011 - Badshot Lea Big Pond 10:00am to 10:00am. Old pin closed from 8:00pm Friday 13th May
    • Saturday 13th August - Sunday 14th August 2011 - Badshot Lea Big Pond 10:00am to 10:00am. Old pin closed from 8:00pm Friday 12th August. Application forms for these events will be distributed with Spring Newsletter
  • Surface Carp Fishing - Junior teach-in
    • Wednesday 27th July 2011 - Badshot Lea Small Pond: Pegs 8-18 - 4:00pm to dusk. Restricted to 6 Juniors. Book a place by calling DAVE BENTON on 07790 799524.
  • Junior Course Fishing Teach-ins - Run by Will Raison and team
    Waggler, Feeder and Pole techniques
    Restricted to 6 Juniors. Dates to be finalised. Please see newsletters for full details.
  • Junior Barbel Teach-ins - Run by Duncan Charman and Dave Benton.
    • Sunday 4th September 2011 - River Loddon, Stanford End. Top end closed 10:00am to 10:00pm. Limited to 6 juniors per session. Pick up at Badshot Lea Small Pond car park at 2.00pm, travel via mini-bus to the venue for the teach-in and later return to the car park for approximately 9:00 - 9:30pm.

Booking Your Place on the Junior and Barbel Teach-ins
Please call Mick or Fran at The Creel on 01252 320871, 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday. You must give your name and permit number to book. First come, first reserved.
When attending any of these Sessions, a Junior must bring the following: Each Junior must bring FAS handbook. A rod, a reel loaded with 12lb line, a landing net and an unhooking mat. Bait and terminal tackle will be supplied, i.e. swivels, weights, hook lengths and hooks.

This consent form must be completed by the Parent or Guardian of each junior attending the FAS 24 hour Carp Academies.

SENIOR MEMBER TEACH-IN DATES

FAS will supply all the bait that you'll need for the sessions and the coaches can provide tackle if required, but you can of course use your own. Contact us if you need tackle for the day.

    • Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June 2011 - Badshot Lea Big Pond: The Old Pin from 10:00am to 10:00am. Old Pin closed from 8:00pm Friday 24th June. Restricted to 6 Seniors: to secure a place in the draw on 1st June 2011, call Dave Benton on 07790 799524.
  • Senior Barbel Teach-ins
    • Sunday 21st August 2011 - River Loddon at Stanford End
    • Sunday 18th September 2011 - River Loddon at Stanford End
    • Sunday 16th October 2011 - River Loddon at Stanford End
      Top end closed 10am-10pm. Meet at Car Park A at 2.30pm, finish approximately 9.30pm.
