FAS Re-Open Badshot Lea Complex
You may be aware that we have lost a number of Carp from
Badshot Lea Big and Small Pond due to an outbreak of KHV
We are been working with the Environment Agency (EA) and the
Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science
(CEFAS) to contain a Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) outbreak which has
been confirmed on both ponds, to contain this disease the entire
Badshot Lea Complex has been listed as a KHV Designation Area
by CEFAS.
Carp have stopped dying with a total loss of approximately 200
Carp from Badshot Lea Big Pond, which still leaves a stock of 800+
Carp within the lake. We have also lost around 130 Carp from the
Small Pond.
FAS Supply Free Netting, Unhooking and Weighing equipment for exclusive use on the Badshot Lea Complex
IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU GO FISHING: Only FAS-Supplied nets, unhooking mats and weigh-slings to be used: Click here for more information.
The Executive Committee have authorised the purchase of an
adequate number of landing nets, keep nets and combined
unhooking mats with weigh slings to be kept on the fishery and to
be used by members to provide the best defence against the
spread of the disease when we re-open the venue.
While the outbreak of this disease on this very popular venue is a
disaster for all of us, we are lucky to have a wide variety of
alternative venues that provide excellent fishing for both Carp
and all other species and will cope with the demands of the
membership.
Koi Herpes Virus is a serious notifiable disease that only affects
Carp; there is no danger to human health, birds or other animals
or fish other than Carp. The virus might be spread by fish to fish
contact, and it is believed that fisherman using nets which are still
wet from a previous session may spread the disease as could any
other means of water contamination.
The Executive Committee would like to thank Rob Kinge and the
staff at Hampshire tackle and Tosh at Raison Brothers for their help
in acquiring the tackle for the bio-security on the Lea.
