The Society maintains an accurate record list for each species, each with a quality photograph to accompany it, and we will be delighted to receive record claims from you.
The former Crucian Carp record of 5lb 14oz has been re-opened by the Executive Committee this season, with a qualifying weight of 2lb for claims, as it was considered that the previous FAS record was almost certainly a Brown Goldfish.
The longest standing on the list is the Pike record (Mill Lane – 1988), although this was shaken recently by a Frensham fish of 30lb 5oz in January 2009.
The next oldest is the Roach record (Lodge Pond – 2002), but with 2lb + fish having been caught from both Lodge Pond and Stockbridge Pond last season, how much longer will that last ?
Similarly, the Common Carp record (Tarn Pond – 2003), record was nudged last season with a fish from Mill Lane, although t is known that an unofficial record of 40lb + has been caught from River Valley.
The Barbel record (Carters Hill – 2004), has been broken but not claimed and it is known that a 19lb 4oz fish was caught in December 2008, with other fish over 18lb having been caught.
The Chub record (Sindlesham Mill – 2004), could also go with specimens of 7lb having been caught at the same venue this season and 6lb + fish coming from Stanford End.
The Perch record (Badshot Lea Big Pond – 2003), remains an anomaly as a fairly low weight, with River Valley having on occasion produced larger fish and Carters Hill often referred to and with 2lb fish being quite common.
The Rudd record (Frensham Great Pond – 2008), is quite likely to go again whilst the Frensham Great Pond fish continue to grow, so expect to see further changes within the next couple of years.
Our Tench record (Stillwater Front Lake), is quite moderate in modern times and fish in excess of this weight have been caught from Badshot Lea Big Pond, River Valley and with Stillwater Lakes still able to produce consistently, the chances are that it will be broken sooner rather than later.
The Eel record (Tarn Pond – 2009), will taking some beating, with a great new record having been set last season, it will be a tough one to crack.
With Mill Lane being home to the Mirror Carp record, the Grass Carp record and the Bream record: the chances of further record claims from the fishery remain strong.
The Ghost Common Carp record (Winchfield Pond – 2008), has been beaten by more than 1lb, but has not been claimed to date.
The Catfish record, seems to simply increase year on year, if you can manage to land them once hooked, so if you have adequate gear why not have a try ?
The River Wey at Dockenfield contains a mixed bag for those wishing to try their luck and with a large head of larger than average fish, the Gudgeon record could be surpassed.
The records for Bleak, Dace and Grayling, and Trout (caught on the coarse sections), remain open and claims open at 2oz, 6oz and 8oz respectively.
There are also unclaimed mini-species with Bullhead, Minnow and Stone Loach all unclaimed, with all 3 being resident within the River Wey sections around Elstead and Dockenfield, for those wishing to try something a little bit different in pursuit of these largely overlooked species. That simply leaves the Ruffe record open to claims, which can be found at the Badshot Lea Complex, as we currently have no claims at all for this species.

FAS will consider applications for large specimens of mini-species that have been caught. As well as seeking to weigh the fish as accurately as possible, submissions must also be measured, which will enable consideration to be given to the possible inaccuracy of scales for such small weights and further inaccuracies that may arise through incorrect zeroing of weighing equipment etc.
We therefore suggest that the fish should be laid on a wet ruler, with their nose at the 0 cm measurement and a clear photograph taken which shows the whole fish and the end of the tail clearly on the ruler.
