This stretch of the Loddon sits above our Sindlesham Mill section and offers superb fishing for big barbel, roach, chub and pike in an unpressured environment.

The venue is, a deep slow-moving river with species including Bream to 5lb, Chub to over 7lb 4oz, Barbel to over 16lb 10oz, Common Carp to over 20lb, Mirror Carp to 27lb 11oz and Roach.

In recent years Barbel have populated the Loddon in far greater numbers, and reach astounding sizes at this venue. Pike, Eels and other species are also present.

Tackle and Tactics

Suitable for most river tactics, although the venue is largely shallow with fast shallow runs into deeper areas.

Fish the deeper areas and glides for consistent sport and check out the over hanging trees and rafts for the Chub.

Local Bye-Laws

  • Fishing is on the upstream left hand bank for approximately 0.5 miles above the Motorway bridge.
  • Note this venue is no longer a day ticket water.
  • Camping is not permitted, but night fishing is allowed with bivouacs and brollys.

Directions & Parking

Using the A321(Reading Road) to Arborfield, turn right at the cross-roads by The Bull pub, carry on to the B3030 (Winnersh Road) until you reach the Bearwood Golf Club. At this point turn left.

Park the car on the right before the Carter’s Hill Farm cross roads and cottages.

Proceed on foot past the cottages. Follow this straight towards a stile by a bridge, cross this, and proceed over the next field to the river.
