Crucian Carp to 2lb 12oz Tench typically 1-4lb but up to 6lb + Roach to 2lb Rudd and Perch up to 1lb. |
A pleasure anglers’ paradise. This quiet, secluded two and a half-acre lake is in a peaceful, rural location where members can spend a relaxing time reeling in the obliging crucians that inhabit the pond in their thousands.
Bags of fish up to fifty pounds are not unknown but enjoyment rather than achievement is the name of the game on this lovely, tree-fringed little lake.
This is an ideal general club fishery. Set in quiet countryside, yet with easy access and parking, wooded walks to the swims and then mixed bags of fish on tap to all, regardless of ability, tackle etc. Lovely green Tench to 3lb 8oz, golden Crucian Carp to nearly 2lb, Roach to 2lb and Rudd around the 1lb mark and Perch in low numbers to 1lb 8ozs. Lots of fish have been stocked into Stockbridge recently and large bags of mixed species should be possible.
This water owes much to a past member, Mr. Alan Peach, who put a great deal of effort into improving the lake. Unfortunately, Alan did not live to enjoy the rewards of his work. Today, the Society recognises his contribution by awarding a trophy for the largest Tench caught at Stockbridge each season. Any member catching a good fish is invited to submit a claim to the Bailiff or Hon. Secretary as soon after capture as possible.
Stockbridge has long been known as a great venue for Crucian Carp and offers easy fishing for this pretty species.
Most anglers use standard pole or waggler tactics presented a couple of rod lengths out to pick up the Crucian’s and also enjoy picking up the Tench and other species with this tactic.
The wealth of lilies provide classic swims for the angler and the venue is just what Mr Crabtree would have ordered!

Just off Tilford Road, Tilford, Surrey
Travelling south from Farnham station, take the right fork immediately past the level crossing. At Tilford, cross the river bridge and keep the cricket green on you left. At the top of the hill (half a mile) turn left along the unmade road and the lake is about half a mile along on the right.
Do not park on the dam. You may park off the road near the dam. Alternatively, 100 yards before the dam a right turn into a locked gate which leads into a large parking area, or turn sharp right to follow a track to the far end of the pond.
Park to the left of the track, not on it, nor in front of the gate at the end of the track. This is now fenced.
