The Aesthetic Chub by Bob Price"This little piece then is for those amongst you who proudly describe themselves as ‘pleasure anglers’. Yep, if you sport a beard, if you insist on wearing that ridiculous old hat and if your waders squeak as you tramp along the river bank…I’m writing for you....." This article and accompanying illustration were submitted by Bob Price, who is an FAS member and writer and gives an interesting and entertaining view of chubbing on the Wey and Loddon. |

Another great session at Kings Pond for 1st Finchampstead CubsThis year 1st Finchampstead Cub Scouts once again had the opportunity for some of our older cubs to have a go at angling. Six of our older cub scouts (aged 9 or 10) were given the challenge of fishing a 4 meter whip to see what they could catch. Thanks to Ian Gray, Farnham Angling Society’s Honorary Secretary made the day possible, and what a great day we had. This year we used a keep net to be able to show the cubs how many fish they could catch with their efforts combined. We were kept cool by the many showers the day threw at us, but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the cubs in the slightest. Setting up the whips to fish just on the bottom was soon completed with the help of the leaders. And floats were very soon in the water. |

Farnham Angling Society Bailiff Match 2012Thanks to all the bailiffs who entered the bailiffs match on June 23rd 2012. We had 10 pairs of anglers who are all bailiffs on different waters or Committee Bailiffs. Everyone had a great time and all the teams caught. First with 173b 7oz was Glen, a bailiff on Tarn and Warren, and Paul, a bailiff on River Valley. The largest fish caught was a 31lb 4 oz catfish caught by Andy, bailiff on Badshot Lea Small Pond. Thanks to Terry, Carol, Wendy and Phil for the great job they did on the BBQ, also to the Executive Committee for the trophies and supplying the food. Fred Durbridge - Chief Bailiff |

Monster Lea Moggies by Ken Worthington & friends.Catfish are not everyone's idea of a pretty fish but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and love them or hate them, they are firmly established in the Lea and growing at a tremendous rate. Thanks to FAS who had the foresight to stock them as part of the clubs quest to provide all types of anglers with sport of their individual choosing. If you've never seen a catfish or hooked one, don't knock them, till you've tried fishing for them because once you put a decent one on the bank, you will like us, find them absolutely awesome creatures....... |

Badshot Lea Catfish on Worm by Duncan CharmanDuring the spring a window of opportunity presents itself when Catfish can be targeted by design using a bait that is selective and very effective. It all started a couple of seasons ago when l wanted to catch a big Catfish, yet didn't look forward to the busy nature of the lakes during the summer months. Spring was my chosen time, April in fact, and although the cats were waking up, my feeling was that after a long period of inactivity they would home in on something with movement, as their later, easy source of pellets and boilies wasn't readily available yet.... |

Stillwater Extreme Make-OverThree years ago whilst fishing the back lake I was amazed that the main island had turned into a Christmas tree, there was enough tackle hanging from the trees to start a tackle shop. Time for action, on speaking to members it soon became apparent that the island's margins were a hot spot, but due to the overhanging branches casting tight was difficult. The next problem was how to reach the island. Simon kindly supplied a boat and tools, work commenced..... |

Most of the boys (aged 8 to 10) had never been fishing before and having arrived by mini bus we were excited at the thought of a great day’s fishing. We were met by Ian Gray, the Secretary of Farnham Angling Society who had helped make the day possible with the support of the Environment Agency who had supplied us with whips and pole float rigs, bank sticks and ‘Fishing Introductions Packs’ for the boys and with Farnham Angling Society providing the venue, pellets and groundbait, landing net handles and some terminal gear for the cubs to practise making up their own float rigs for the future. |
